Drivers’ profit is determined by how many patients are transported to hospital
It is understood that an ambulance needs to travel and excessive speeds to get to the scene of an accident, but to drive so recklessly and so dangerously is just unacceptable.
News24 reported on a video that surfaced on Facebook of two ambulances allegedly racing each other to get to the scene of an accident.
The Dynamic EMS ambulance appears to be blocking the path of another ambulance almost causing an accident. A woman in the ‘chasing’ ambulance films the ordeal shouting and screaming as they try to pass.
According to News24, the private ambulance industry in South Africa is lucrative, with the providers’ profit determined by how many patients are transported to hospital. How shocking then that this is how the drivers behave?
Dynamic EMS spokesperson Rudy Robson said that the incident took place on Thursday.
“At this stage we view this in a very serious light and we are giving it our full attention. The behaviour of the driver is against company policy and our code of ethics and as such he has been suspended pending disciplinary action,” he said.
Maponya911 spokesperson Karabo Selepe refused to comment.
“If you are calling about the footage, we have no comment,” he said tersely.
These drivers should go on an emergency drivers course!
